My Reply to Justice Katju Sir

Respected Justice Katju Sir,

The election arithmetic in India is quite simple.  Here's how it goes.

The total voting percentage is generally between 60-70%. The voting percentage among the minorities is almost cent percent ( if not above 90% as they know very well their vote matters). The 30-40 % of them who do not cast the vote are generally from the majority i.e Hindus.

Hindus generally don't vote en masse ( one because it's natural that there is no unity among the majority unlike the minority  and two because contenders belong to same religion and even same caste in most of the cases ) and so their vote gets divided, here in this case between the BJP and the Trinamool. And even thinly, if there are many contending political parties ( which we are witnessing at the regional level).

It is a known fact that Muslims vote en masse and to non-BJP party (also mentioned in your previous posts) therefore  27% ( percentage of Muslims in WB) goes to Trinamool and its natural that Trinamool wins.

The only way BJP can come to power in WB is to consolidate Hindu votes or see that Hindu vote doesn't split ( as we have seen in General elections 2014 esp. in UP, BH, GJ, RJ).

This has been the case almost everywhere in India ( except North East as they have ethnic loyalties). The greatest beneficiary of this simple election arithmetic is Congress party so far. As Muslims vote to any party but BJP. Now with the rise of regional parties, they are following the same.

The compulsory voting has been introduced in local body elections in GJ to overcome this phenomenon. But it is rightly declared void by the judiciary.

The country can only hope to see non-communal political discourse when Muslims start voting individually as per their own will and not en masse.

 May our prayers be one. May we belong to one brotherhood. May our hearts and minds move toward one supreme goal. May we be inspired by common ideals.


 3. samaanee va aakootih samaanaa hridayaani vah. 
     samaanamastu vo mano yathaa vah susahaasati.

 May our aspirations be harmonious. May our minds be in unison. May we strive to reduce disparity. May we be bound in strong fellowship and unity.
